Redondo Beach gets first community garden
Redondo Beach ushered in its first community garden this week to be constructed on a 4,000 square foot plot at Alta Vista park. Seems kind of remarkable the city never had one before. And it wasn’t for lack of trying.
This particular garden took about two years to organize and gain approvals. Better late than never, I suppose. The effort now requires fundraising as organizers are looking to raise up to $55,000.

RBPD officer wins boxing title belt
Earlier this week Redondo Beach Police Officer Mike Delery defended his boxing title at the United Combat Association Central California Battle of the Badges. Presenting Delery with the championship belt in Visalia was former Chief Keith Kauffman, calling it an ultimate honor.
Delery, who is a long time boxer, beat undefeated Daniel Ming in the Masters UCA Jr Middleweight Championship on April 2. By doing so, he became the first fighter to hold a UCA Open division title and a UCA Masters division title.
The UCA is a boxing association solely for public safety employees including peace officers, firefighters and military personnel.
Share your thoughts on harbor plan
A new plan to revitalize the Redondo Beach waterfront is about halfway through its plan development phase, and it’s not too late to give your input.
The scope of the plan is much smaller than the failed bid previously. On the table for upgrades are Moonstone Park, Seaside Lagoon, Sportfishing Pier, International Boardwalk, hand boat launch, a new public boat launch and dinghy dock.

Garcetti ambassador post is rebuffed
Well, it seems Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti might not be going to India to serve as US ambassador after all.
Thanks to Sen. Chuck Grassley and some backroom lobbying against the Teflon mayor, Garcetti is facing increased scrutiny over the way he handled an alleged harassment issue with a top advisor and key fundraiser. Perhaps the roosters have finally come home.
There are plenty of reasons not to reward Eric Garcetti. The only down side to this turn of events is that he will spend even more time as mayor of Los Angeles.
If you want to see just how out of touch Garcetti is, watch the above interview with Fox LA’s Elex Michaelson where they drive around the city and Michaelson gets him to confront the realities of the failed Prop HHH, a $1.2 billion bond passed in 2016 for supportive housing.
A recent audit by the LA Controller showed five years after the bond’s passage, implementation has been slow and expensive. Units built under Prop HHH cost $600,000 to $800,000. Meanwhile, the number of people living on the street increased 45%.
But Garcetti still thinks after all the money spent and all the homeless still on the street, that it’s somehow been a success.
What do you think? Share your thoughts below.
And as always, thanks for reading.
Garcetti- ripped off the LA Voters for the last 8 years. No statues for him. AND LA City Controller Galperin has written many scathing audits on the Prop HHH failure. When promoted in 2016 LA promised to save the 'Invisible People' or homeless. Yes the homeless population has risen dramatically; the Veterans are living in tents or tiny homes on the VA Land. Even though Garcetti signed off to give a billionaire developer over $100 Million to revamp the buildings for the Vets to live. So Garcetti gets an 'F' and lower if that's possible.

Garcetti. I'll give the guy credit. He's fácil and glib on his denials. As to his Achilles' heel, Jacobs the whose ox is getting gored rule of law was applied. Always believe the victim up unless male, belying equity, diversity and inclusivity. Then the female staffer spills the beans. Well at least Jacobs applied equity, diversity and inclusivity in that he hit on men and women. But are these alleged victims to be believed? Not under the whose ox rule. Would the Indians accept this guy's credentials if appointed? Why would they want a shopworn ambassador? The only return on investment on our tax dollars is comic relief, painful as it is, from these clowns.
